BUGS and STAR are partnering to raise money for the charity Young Roots through a walk-a-thon on Sunday, November 19th.
Young Roots is a London-based charity working with young refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-25, most of whom are alone in the UK without their families. They support young people to improve their well-being and fulfil their potential, through intensive one-to-one Casework, youth and sporting activities, English language mentoring, youth leadership and access to specialist therapeutic and legal advice
The event is open to anyone who wants to join us at 10:30 am outside the library, after which we will be walking down to the city, up to Alexandra Park, and back to uni with a pub break in between. The route is split into 3 legs and people are welcome to join and leave as they wish. Our goal is to collectively walk a total of 560 kilometres, which is the length of the channel refugees have to cross from mainland Europe to get to the UK. You can get friends and family to pledge a certain amount for every kilometre you walk, or donate directly. All proceeds will go to Young Roots to help support young refugees in the UK.
